Summer guide
What to wear in hot weather: a cotton guide
When the temperature climbs, what your clothes are made of and how they fit matter more than anything else. These are the simple rules we design around.
1. Choose a natural, breathable fabric
Cotton lets air through and absorbs sweat, so it feels cooler on the skin than most synthetics. More on why we use 100% cotton.
2. Wear it loose
A relaxed fit leaves space for air to circulate between fabric and skin, which is what actually keeps you cool. Look for dropped shoulders, boxy bodies and wide or straight legs rather than anything that clings.
3. Pick lighter weaves and colours
Lightweight weaves like poplin feel airy, and pale shades such as ivory and sand reflect more sunlight than dark colours, so they stay cooler in direct sun.
4. Short sleeves, open collars
An open camp collar and short sleeves let heat escape. Our Camp Collar Shirt was made for warm days; wear it tucked or loose over a tee.
5. Relaxed pants over tight jeans
A drawstring waist and relaxed leg, like our Drawstring Easy Pant, are far more comfortable in the heat than fitted denim.
Don’t forget the sun
In Australia, covering up is part of sun protection. Longer sleeves and legs in a loose fit let you stay covered without overheating, and a closer weave blocks more sun than an open one. For long days outdoors, pair your outfit with sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, and look for UPF-rated clothing if you need certified protection.
